Some history of the Mosman Park Real Estate Market
Mosman Park was established with the first survey of town lots in 1889 as Buckland Hill, taking its name from the prominent local hill that was a major maritime navigation mark for shipping from the earliest days of colonisation.
It wasn’t until as recently as 1962 that the Town (and subsequent suburb) of Mosman Park was formally recognised however, after being labelled as a Shire for 12 months prior and experiencing multiple district divisions and name changes throughout the previous 90 years. Once governed by the Perth Road Board of the late 1800s, this quiet suburb could almost be mistaken for being an isolated “country town” or home of large-scale industry as it was once a place of open bushland and huge factories that lined both the river and the highway.
Going to “the pictures” or a local dance was a treat for hardworking residents on Friday and Saturday nights, while Sundays were reserved for family fun at the river or the beach. The suburb also has 89 heritage-listed places to this day, seven of which are on the State Register of Heritage Places – the Leighton Battery amongst them.
Mosman Park is a great place to call home
Uniquely neighboured by both our picturesque Swan River and crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters, Mosman Park is served by the Mosman Park and Victoria Street railway stations in a public-transport sense. Various bus routes travel along Stirling Highway and through the suburb’s eastern section, whilst the Mosman Park Shopping Centre is easily accessible to most residents in the area.
A plethora of lush local parklands (including the riverside Minim Cove Park) are commonplace throughout the suburb, whilst cafes and restaurants are all within walking distance of one another. Mosman Park is also home to many excellent educational facilities, as well as some of the state’s top schools – including Mosman Park Primary School, Iona Presentation College and St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls. The Mosman Park Golf Club and the Mosman Park Bowling Club are also both highlighted amenities.
Why you should live in Mosman Park
The proximity to both the river and the beach. Mosman Park offers a distinct waterside lifestyle in more ways than one – and if you aren’t living near the Swan or the Indian Ocean, you will probably be overlooking a lovely park somewhere.
For families, the schools and sporting clubs speak for themselves – and there is always the major drawcard of living close to Fremantle. Easy public-transport links also play their part.
